This is an old boom, army is not even positioned properly, now i go only musks for first army normally, its what works best for me, and i dont use infinite card before 40 now to get both train cards, except vs civs with bigger army, but im not really sure if that is ok or not.

The reason why you should almost always get goons instead of musk for start army, is because muskets are vulnerable to the mass of artilery that your opponent usually has. Goons wont get hurt by artillery as bad, and are good for destroying artillery peices your culverins werent able to kill.
Ofcourse there are always MU's where goons aren't as good as musk.. such as port vs india, or port vs aztec, but 90% of the time you should have goons instead of musk for start fight.

Nice, ill try using goons then. I suppose you are talking just about ports. What is better with brits? Ive seen most brits go musks for first army, but what do u say? That`s cause im using brits a lot more than ports now

Ye i use muskets with brits. The difference between port and brit and the different anti cav styles, is port is a highly micro intensive civ. you must be careful with all units so as not to take unneccessary deaths and to have OP unit control etc... its all about racking up kills with ports and abusing mortars. So using goons as ports you will be able to use less population on anti cav, and you can use the extra pop on units that will do some serious damage... i.e. culv/organ/mort/cassidor. With port goon movement speed and op range you will be able to dfend vs cav easily with not many goons.
With brits... you have a huge freaking economy, so you dont need to be as careful with your unit control etc. Your gameplay is more based on brute strength and pushing power, where your main unit is the musketeer. Since you are making SO many muskets as your main pushing unit, you wont need goons for anti cav. And particularly for starting army you wont really need to worry about losing a artillery war and having your musk killed by art... cause the british artillery start army is among the very best in the game.

OK, from what you say i think i have been using muskets a bit too much with ports, sometimes i let my army be pure skirms + musks + art (my normal army, not first army). So, sry for asking so much questions, are muskets needed with ports vs a "normal" civ? I use them because i find them usefull at the front so my cassadors and goons dont go into melee when the enemy is pushing and i dont have nats. Dont know how to achieve that without them. If i go skirm + goon and enemy goes, for example, dopp + uhlan (or even a cav spam), i find my army going into melee and dying right there. I find port muskets strong too. Not as strong as british, but they are improved by cards.

ys, u can make a couple of musks just to meat shild.... but 80% of your army must be caça+goon art

I make walls really fast vs melee civs, so i dont need to rely on musk for meatshield, which will die vs most melee.
